Why is u.s bombing libya ? what is it all for actually?

quaddafi was using libyas own military to bomb the citizens rebelling because they don't want his dictatorial ways. he has stolen their resources and restricts their freedoms and it finally boiled over.many human rights abuses as is the manner of governments there. we bombed quaddafis military targets so they cant strike its rebelling citizens any further.
