My gf is getting divorced?

she has been seperated for 8 years..can she go to the courthouse and file the papers without having a lawyer involved?they have kids they are 18,16,13 they live with the ex..she can go and visit whenever she wants the ex doesnt even want child support she just wants to be out of the marriage even though its not like a marriage
