The profit-generating machine is what worked hard at eliminating the "public option" from current US health care policy or "Obamacare", which would have provided a far less profitable standard for the private ins. co's to compete with. I work in medicine and have actually considered doing the reverse of what many of my canadian-immigrant collegues have done in the past to make more money-- I would like to work in a system more involved with the genuine caring aspects I went to school to do. I've seen far too many medical professionals in my years of working in the U.S. whose only motive is the money and I hate that. Not to say there aren't many caring folks in the U.S. system, largely there are--- and their hands are tied by some profit-focused hospital administration.
